J unior Tour of Northern California member Matthew Sutherland got to do something a lot of pros dream of. Hoist a trophy on the 18th green at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Sutherland and fellow JTNC member Yena Jang, both of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento, finished in first and third place, respectively, in the Pro-Junior portion of the annual PGA Tour Champions PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee. The two each came in at 16-under 199 along with Caroline Wales of La Quinta. Sutherland, whose professional partner was his uncle, Kevin Sutherland, took the title after a tie- breaking card-off. "He was a great partner, he stayed focused, he kept me in line," said Sutherland of his uncle, who won the 1986 NCGA Amateur Match Play Championship. "It's been one of the best weeks of my life, for sure." Taking home the professional title was Ken Tanigawa (inset) after the 2017 Champions Tour Q-School grad rolled in a 35-foot putt for eagle on the iconic 18th hole. Making his PURE Insurance debut, Tanigawa, who finished at 10-under 205, also made a long eagle putt on his final hole at Poppy Hills in the second round. Afterwards, when Tanigawa was asked how it felt to join the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as champions at Pebble Beach, he replied with a grin: 'It feels like a stretch."
