Around the NCGA NCGA.ORG | WINTER 2019 63 T he California Golf Association, which consists of the NCGA and Southern California Golf Association, will add the annual California Women's Amateur Championship and California Senior Women's Amateur Championship beginning in 2019. Under the agreement reached between the California Women's Amateur Championship (CWAC) and CGA, the California Women's Amateur and California Senior Women's Amateur will rotate between North and South championship venues on an annual basis. "It is an exciting venture to preserve the history of these championships and to elevate them to statewide participation," Whitlock said. In 2019, Quail Lodge Resort and Golf Club in Carmel Valley will host both events. Founded by women's golf legend and NCGA Hall of Famer Helen Lengfeld, the California Women's Amateur was first held in 1967. The championship features an illustrious list of past winners including Shelley Hamlin, Patty Sheehan, Juli Inkster and Pat Cornett. The inaugural Senior Women's Amateur Championship was held in 1979. The CGA was formed in 1912 between the NCGA and SCGA to promote and organize statewide California golf championships. The CGA currently also operates the annual California Amateur, California Senior Amateur and CIF State Boys and Girls' High School Championships. C WAC President Yole Whitlock and 2018 NCGA President Tom Bone formally signed the agreement Dec. 6, 2018 at NCGA headquarters at Poppy Hills Golf Course.
