74 SPRING 2019 | NCGA.ORG March 17 | TPC Harding Park A pair of Junior Tour of Northern California products took the titles at one of the nation's oldest amateur championships. Evan Peterson (top right), now a redshirt junior at St. Mary's, defeated Jason Anthony, 5 and 3, in the 36-hole men's final while Danielle Suh (top left), a junior at Daugherty Valley High, came from behind to defeat Aman Sangha on the 38th hole to win the women's crown. The No.12-seeded Peterson took an early lead and never looked back in defeating the No.2-seeded Anthony, who was looking to become the first repeat champion since Jim Evans in 1995-96. While he hasn't been able to crack the starting lineup at St. Mary's, Peterson joined the likes of Ken Venturi and Harvie Ward as champions of 'The City.' "It's such a prestigious event," Peterson said. The No.4-seeded Suh, who was down four holes after the morning round, knotted things up before finally catching the No.3-seeded Sangha. Still just 17, Suh called her victory the biggest of her budding amateur career. Over in the Senior Championship, 66-year-old No. 21-seed Jim Knoll turned back the clock, knocking off No.3 Steve Schroeder, 1 up. Knoll, who won a record five straight NCGA Senior Player of the Y ear titles from 2011-15, last won the S.F. City Senior title in 2008. In the Super Senior Championship, No.4 Frank Pieper defeated No.2 Stuart Francis, 5 and 3. For Pieper, the son of amateur legend Ernie Pieper, it marked his first 'The City' Super Senior crown. Francis is the incoming USGA president. In the second Senior W omen's Championship, Jennifer Douglas won the title, which was contested at stroke play. 103rd San Francisco City Championship SPRINGING BACK into ACTION March 17-18 | Blackhawk CC and Crow Canyon CC WGANC Team Challenge (Stableford) Flight A Gross: Lydia Shell, Cynthia Hollingshead, Julie Wirth, Joy Robinson, 69-66—135 Flight B Gross: Kelly Cheuk, Elsie Nguyen, Valerie Buschor (missing), Hake Kim (missing), 38-44—82 Flight C Gross: Lisa Winsten, Shirley Lowes, Marci Porter, Anne Kuelz, 33-45—78 Flight D Gross: Susie Davis, Palmira Brandt, Ann Pons, Darlene Patch, 24-34—58 Flight A Net: Michiko Shoji, Y oko Sugiyama, Kazumi Monaco, Ayumi Hayakawa, 72-87—159 Flight B Net: Marilyn Baca, Dottie Teague, Karen Price, Penelope Crumpley, 79-73—152 Flight C Net: Elizabeth Barker, Nancy Lisiak, Dede Cowan, Denise Benger, 76-85—161 Flight D Net: Patricia Seeley, Linda Hefti, Linda Moore, Jo Walker, 74-79—153 T O U R N A M E N T C E N T R A L
