G olf in Northern California was celebrated Sept. 21 as the NCGA welcomed its 2017 Hall of Fame class in a ceremony at Porter's in the Forest at Poppy Hills Golf Course. Renowned architect Dr. Alister MacKenzie, PGA Tour Champions star Loren Roberts, Califor- nia amateur great Casey Boyns and LPGA legend Juli Inkster were recognized for their achievements and contributions to the game in what was the NCGA's seventh Hall of Fame class. MacKenzie, whose work includes the esteemed Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia and Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, designed over 50 clubs including: Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Haggin Oaks in Sacramento, the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Pacifica's Sharp Park Golf Course and the 9-hole Northwoods Golf Course in Monte Rio. Accepting the award on behalf of MacKenzie was Dr. Gary Nelson, president of the Alister MacKenzie Society. A native of San Luis Obispo, Roberts is an eight- time PGA Tour champion and 13-time Champions Tour winner, including four majors. Boyns, a longtime caddie at Pebble Beach Golf Links, is a two-time California Amateur champion and is the all-time leader in NCGA wins with 16. A member of the California Golf Hall of Fame, Boyns also has seven victories in NCGA Senior championships. Born in Santa Cruz, Inkster's 31 career wins rank her second among all active players on the LPGA Tour. The seven-time LPGA Tour major champi- onship winner and World Golf Hall of Fame member also has more Solheim Cup victories than any other American—and two as a captain. Net proceeds from the event—which was emceed by Matt Ginella of the Golf Channel and open to NCGA members—benefited Youth on Course. 58 FALL 2017 | NCGA.ORG H A L L O F F A M E Heads of the Class Renowned artist Jim Fitzpatrick used his touch to commemorate the four Hall of Fame inductees.
