NCGA.ORG | WINTER 2018 79 T he Northern California PGA conducted its annual awards presentation on Dec. 4 to honor outstanding performers among its 1,100 members in the Section. Held at North Ridge Country Club in Sacramento, the banquet was attended by more than 200 family and friends of the 19 honorees. Ed Winiecki, PGA, General Manager of San Jose Country Club took top honors as this year's Golf Professional of the Year. Winiecki has been in the golf industry for more than 30 years and "enjoys the opportunity to give back through youth golf, social causes, and certainly mentoring new golf professionals," Winiecki said. "While giving back, I have gotten much more than I could have ever imagined." The event was bittersweet for all as the Bill Strausbaugh Award was presented posthumously to Chris Thomas, PGA, for "outstanding integrity, character, and leadership while making significant impacts on the careers of PGA professionals." Thomas served admirably as Executive Director and COO of the Northern California Section for 14 years. Thomas is the only member to achieve PGA status while also serving as executive director. The game is in good hands and its stewards are indeed making an impact in Northern California.
