NORCAL NEWS Conquering the Bear's Lair C lovis native and former Junior Tour of Northern California Player of the Year Bryson DeChambeau picked up the biggest win of his career (so far) with a thrilling victory at The Memorial in June. With host Jack Nicklaus looking on, DeChambeau drained a 12-foot birdie on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff at Muirfield to defeat Cal alum Byeong Hun An and Kyle Stanley. It marked DeChambeau's second PGA Tour win in two years. In 2017, he notched his first victory at the John Deere Classic. "I can't believe I did it," said the 24-year-old DeChambeau. "I can't even describe it right now. Just to be able to win [Jack Nicklaus'] event is such an honor. He's the greatest to play. To be able to do that, I am speechless honestly." The victory not only moved DeChambeau to No.8 in the Ryder Cup standings. It also propelled him to No.22 in the world rankings. AP
